TOEIC Reading: follow a revised schedule

TOEIC Listening and Reading includes written messages and passages. This original reading drill combines a staff briefing notice and its revision; it does not test listening.

The short answer

Match the update to the same event. Replace only the details it explicitly changes and keep any details it confirms are unchanged. A message moving a briefing to Friday at 11 does not move it to a different room when it says the room stays the same.

Track changed and unchanged details separately.

Original: Thursday, 10 a.m., Room 4. Update: the staff briefing moves to Friday at 11 a.m.; the room remains unchanged. The current plan is Friday, 11 a.m., Room 4. The old time is not an alternative unless the update says there are two sessions.

Read both documents

Original notice

Staff briefing: Thursday at 10 a.m., Room 4.

Explicit update

The staff briefing has moved to Friday at 11 a.m. The room remains unchanged.

Current plan

Friday at 11 a.m., Room 4.

Notice the difference

Unchanged means you still need the original notice for that detail. It does not mean the entire schedule stayed the same.

The briefing moves from Thursday to Friday. Which day should staff attend?
Read all answers and explanations
  1. The briefing moves from Thursday to Friday. Which day should staff attend?

    Friday

The update moves one event to Friday. It does not add a second session.

  2. Original: 10 a.m. Update: “The staff briefing has moved to Friday at 11 a.m.” What is the current time?

    11 a.m.

The new time is 11 a.m. Keep the morning label, not just the number.

  3. Original: Room 4. Update: “The room remains unchanged.” Which room?

    Room 4

The original room remains valid. The numbers in the changed time are not room numbers.

Put it into practice

Correct a mixed-up calendar entry

Original training: Monday at 2 p.m., Room 8. Update: “Training now starts at 3 p.m. on Monday. The room is unchanged.” Choose the current entry.

Original draft

Monday at 2 p.m., Room 3

Which edit meets the goal?
See a model answer

Monday at 3 p.m., Room 8

Reading two texts means combining the relevant details, not copying one entire line blindly.

A little more clarity

Common questions

A few useful details before you move on.

Does moved mean both times are available?

Not in this example. It replaces the earlier arrangement. Look for explicit wording if an additional session is offered.

For example

moved to Friday

Why read the original if there is an update?

The update may preserve a detail without repeating it. The original supplies that missing value.

For example

The room remains unchanged.

Take it into your day

A revised schedule may change two details and preserve a third.
