Email updates you choose
The free lessons list is for English learning resources and occasional course offers. The English Speaking Lab list is for Lab news and opportunities to join. They are separate signups, and joining either list is optional.
When you sign up, your email address, chosen email language and consent are sent to Brevo, which manages the mailing lists. Brevo also records signup information such as the form and submission time, and processes technical information needed to receive and protect the submission. The required email-consent box starts unchecked.
Signup confirmation appears on the page. There is no automatic welcome or confirmation email. You can unsubscribe using the link in an email, or contact Scott at any time, including before the first email arrives.
Your most recent email-language choice applies to both lists. Changing language does not subscribe you to another list. It is a communication preference, not a claim about your nationality or native language. You can contact Scott to change it.
When you contact Scott
Your email address, message and any information you choose to include are handled through Google Workspace to respond to your enquiry and any follow-up. Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing emails.
Lessons and other websites
Free-lesson answers are checked in your browser. This site does not save your answers to a student account or use them to assess your overall English level.
Course enrolment, payment and paid lessons take place on Udemy. This website does not collect your payment details or connect to your Udemy account. Course and YouTube links take you to those services, where their own privacy policies apply.
The course-preview player connects to YouTube only when you open it. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed mode. YouTube receives technical request information, such as your IP address and browser details, and handles playback under Google’s privacy policy.
The English Speaking Lab is in development. Its waiting list registers interest; it does not create a community account or enrol you in a membership.
Website delivery and analytics
Cloudflare delivers and protects the live website. It processes technical request information, such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser information and security events, to provide those services.
If you allow optional analytics, Google Analytics through Cloudflare Zaraz measures page visits, successful email-form submissions and clicks to our Udemy courses. It receives the page and website language, limited browser information and analytics identifiers. We do not send your email address, lesson answers or form contents to Analytics.
Analytics stays off until you allow it. We remember your choice in this browser for six months. You can change it in Cookie settings in the footer; turning it off reloads the page to stop analytics. Your choice does not affect lessons or email signup. A successful signup is not necessarily a new subscriber, and a course click is not a purchase.
Why information is used
Email subscriptions rely on your consent, which you can withdraw. Enquiries are used to respond to your request. Technical website information supports delivery, security and abuse prevention. Where applicable, these operational uses rely on the legitimate interest in running and protecting the website, subject to your rights.
How long information is kept
Mailing-list details are kept while you remain subscribed and the list is in use. After you unsubscribe, a limited record may be retained to respect your opt-out and document consent. Enquiries are kept for as long as needed to resolve them and relevant follow-up or legal obligations.
The existing Google Analytics property is set to retain detailed event data for two months and user data for fourteen months. New activity resets the user-data period. These settings do not determine the lifetime of standard aggregated reports. Cloudflare technical records follow the applicable service retention rules.
Unsubscribing stops the relevant emails; it does not automatically erase every record. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised using the relevant provider controls. Provider backup and recovery copies may take additional time to expire.
Service providers and processing locations
Scott Mendoza operates this website and manages its mailing lists from South Korea. Information stored with the providers below may also be accessed from South Korea to manage your subscription or respond to you.
These services receive information electronically for the purposes below. Processing can take place outside South Korea and your own country. A database location does not identify every country where support staff or infrastructure providers may process information.
The linked provider terms describe international processing and contractual safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where applicable. Contact Scott for information about the providers and safeguards relevant to your data, or to request that processing stop. The retention and withdrawal details in this notice apply to overseas processing too.

- Your email address, selected language and consent, plus signup and technical submission records, are received when you submit a form. Brevo stores the subscription and supports sending the updates you requested.
- Processing locations
- Brevo lists database hosting in France, Germany and Belgium. Its processing terms also identify support or infrastructure providers in the United States and India. Only the services used for our mailing lists are relevant; the terms also cover other Brevo products.
- Retention and your choices
- Signup is optional. Details are kept while you are subscribed and the list is in use; limited consent and opt-out records may remain afterwards. Unsubscribe in an email or contact Scott, including before the first email arrives.
Google Workspace — correspondence
- Information, timing and purpose
- When you email Scott, Google Workspace receives your email address, message, attachments you include and delivery information so that Scott can receive and answer your enquiry.
- Processing locations
- Google uses international infrastructure and subprocessors, including in the United States. Correspondence is not represented as being stored only in South Korea.
- Retention and your choices
- Send only information needed for your enquiry. Messages are kept for the enquiry, relevant follow-up and applicable obligations. Contact Scott to request access, correction or deletion. An enquiry does not join you to a mailing list.
Cloudflare — delivery and security
- Information, timing and purpose
- When you visit, Cloudflare processes request information such as your IP address, requested page, browser details and security events to deliver and protect the website.
- Processing locations
- Cloudflare operates a global network and processes information internationally, including in the United States. Technical records follow the retention rules for the relevant service.
- Retention and your choices
- This technical processing is part of loading and protecting the site. It is separate from optional Analytics and email signup. Contact Scott with questions about information associated with your visit.
Google Analytics — optional usage measurement
- Information, timing and purpose
- Only after you allow analytics, Google Analytics receives usage events through Cloudflare Zaraz. This includes analytics identifiers, page and language information, limited browser details, accepted signup counts and course-click counts. URL query strings are removed, external referrers are hidden and the original IP address is not forwarded to Google Analytics. The account also retains earlier website data.
- Processing locations
- Google and Cloudflare process information internationally, including in the United States. The existing Analytics account retention settings are described under How long information is kept.
- Retention and your choices
- Analytics consent is optional and separate from email consent. Decline it or withdraw it in Cookie settings without losing access to lessons or signup. Withdrawing stops future measurement in this browser; contact Scott about information already collected or requests for access or deletion.
Your choices and requests
You can decline email signup or optional Analytics and still read the lessons. Without an email address and email consent, we cannot add you to the requested list. You can contact Scott to withdraw consent or ask about overseas processing; the retention periods and provider information in this notice also apply to that processing.
You can read the free lessons without joining an email list. You can withdraw email consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of earlier use.
Contact Scott to request access to, correction of or deletion of your information. Depending on the law that applies, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, or complain to a data protection authority. Some information may need to be retained for legal obligations or to respect an opt-out.
Scott is the contact for privacy requests and complaints. Please identify the email address or information involved without sending passwords or identity documents. If identity verification is needed, Scott will explain what is necessary for your request.
