Careful or carefully? Describe the person or the action
Mina checks an address twice before sending a parcel. You can describe her as a careful person, or describe how she checks the address. English uses different forms for those two jobs.
The short answer
Use careful to describe a person: “Mina is careful.” Use carefully to explain how someone does an action: “Mina checks the address carefully.” Carefully answers “How does she check it?” It describes the checking, not the address.
Ask what you are describing.
Careful is an adjective. It can describe a noun, as in a careful person, or describe Mina after is: Mina is careful. Carefully is an adverb of manner: it tells us how she checks. In Mina checks the address carefully, keep checks the address together, then add carefully. This is one useful position, not the only possible adverb position.
The person and the way she acts.
Mina is careful.
Mina checks the address carefully.
Carefully describes the way Mina checks. It does not tell us that the address itself is careful.

carefulCareful describes Mina after is. Carefully describes how an action is done; carefulness is the noun for the quality.
Explain how Mina checks: “Mina checks the address ___.”
carefullyCarefully tells us how she checks. It describes the action, so the adjective careful and noun carefulness do not fill this role here.
Choose the standard sentence about running speed.
She runs fast.Fast already works as an adverb. Not every manner adverb needs -ly.
Put it into practice
Keep the checking action.
Say how Mina checks the address. Keep Mina checks the address and repair the last word.

Common questions
A few useful details before you move on.
Can carefully go before checks?
Yes. Mina carefully checks the address is also possible. The ending position practiced here is a useful choice, not a rule that the adverb must always come last.
Mina carefully checks the address.
Why is “Be careful” correct?
Careful describes the person being addressed. Be is not an action that needs a manner description here. “Check carefully” instead describes how to do the checking.
Be careful. Check the address carefully.
Take it into your day
