The format, explained
Questions 1–5 · picture sentences
Write a sentence about each picture using the two supplied words or phrases. Their forms and order can change.
Questions 6–7 · email responses
Respond to a written request. Each email task allows 10 minutes.
Question 8 · opinion essay
State and support your view in a developed response. The essay task allows 30 minutes.
Where to start practising
- Check that a picture sentence both uses the required language and describes the image accurately.
- Before an email, identify every request you need to answer. A polite greeting does not compensate for missing information.
- For an opinion, choose a reason you can explain with a concrete example. Revise connections between ideas as well as grammar.
Common questions
Is every question an essay?
No. The test also includes picture-based sentences and email replies.
Can I use the same register for every response?
Match your wording to the reader and purpose. A practical email and a developed opinion do different jobs, even when both need clear, accurate English.
